Tourist entertainer salary: the situation in Italy
As a rule, Italian and/or Swiss/Italian companies operating in the sector offer fixed-term contracts with a net remuneration ranging between 300/450 euro per month for beginners, paid by bank transfer 30/60 days after the month worked.
In some cases, only 50% of the fee is paid monthly with the balance at the end of the season.
Selections are made through 2/3-day stages with contribution towards board, lodging and travel costs to be borne entirely by the candidate tour leader and of course do not guarantee certain job placement.
In case of a successful internship, during the often only seasonal engagement, a lot of flexibility is required in terms of hours and tasks, as there is a lot of work to be done, both during the day and in the evenings.
Schedules can be tough, but this also depends very much on the organisation of the company and especially on the Head of Animation, his preparation, the men and the means he has at his disposal.
Some of these companies guarantee half a free day, others a full day, others none at all.
In most cases there are no contributions, severance pay, holiday pay, leave, unemployment benefits.
In 2019, the collective agreement for Italian animators was signed. Very few, however, are applying it, resorting to fictitious part-timers with partial under-the-table payments and very often to Swiss contracts without any kind of protection.
Darwinstaff believes that the average salary and working conditions of a tour animator should be different, but only by training resources and making them work in large hotels and/or qualified companies abroad can we achieve this important goal.
